Ownership of Property by Foreigners in The Bahamas
There are many reasons why The Bahamas is a great place to invest, especially in Real Estate. The most important is that the Bahamian government has created legislation that makes it quite easy, eliminating much of the red tape associated with buying property.
The International Persons Landholding Act (Acquisition by Foreign Persons) was repealed in 1994 and encourages foreigners to purchase a second home in The Bahamas. For instance, if a foreigner buys a single family home, she or he is no longer required to obtain a permit from the government before purchasing. The property need only be registered with the Investments Board.
As well, the Stamp Tax, was cut in half for foreign buyers.
